Work items

Create, assign, track, log, and close farm work in FarmFusion.

Work items are the jobs your team needs to move from "someone should do this" to "the work is done and recorded." Use them for field work, shop work, maintenance, scouting follow-ups, supply runs, transport, incidents, and everyday tasks.

When to use Work

Use Work when a job needs an owner, due date, status, linked land or equipment, or a record of what happened.

Good work items are specific:

  • "Service Tractor 14 before planting"
  • "Scout North 80 for weed pressure"
  • "Order six hydraulic filters"
  • "Move seed tender to the west yard"

Avoid vague titles like "Maintenance" or "Field check." The title should tell the next person what needs to happen.

Before you start

Set up the basics first:

  • Add important fields in Land -> Parcels
  • Add major equipment in Assets
  • Invite the people who will assign or complete work
  • Decide who reviews completed jobs, if your farm uses review

You can still create work before every detail is perfect. Link parcels, assets, notes, and photos as you learn more.

Find work in the app

The Work section in the sidebar is your operations hub:

  • Today: a short queue for yesterday, today, and tomorrow (assigned, due, overdue, ready, blocked, awaiting review)
  • All work: search and filter every open or completed job
  • Calendar: scheduled and due work across types on a week or month view
  • Wallboard: move jobs by status on a board
  • Work history: work logs across items

Home stays your farm snapshot (weather, map, programs, attention). Work > Today is only the focused work queue.

Create a work item

  1. Open Work and choose Add work.
  2. Pick what needs to happen: plan field work, service equipment, report a problem, create a job, or add a simple task.
  3. If the job belongs to a seasonal Program, pick that Program in the form so the work rolls up under the right outcome.
  4. Write a clear title that says what needs to happen.
  5. Add an assignee, due date, priority, and notes when they help the crew act.
  6. Link the parcels, assets, parts, manuals, or procedures that belong with the job.
  7. Save the item and check that it appears in All work, Today, or Wallboard where your team expects it.

Track the work

Use All work when you need a list. Use Wallboard when you need to coordinate status across a crew.

Blockers and readiness

A job can be in progress or scheduled but still not ready to start. FarmFusion shows readiness separately from status:

  • Ready to start: no blocking issue detected
  • Blocked: another open job must finish first
  • Waiting on inventory or equipment unavailable: supply or asset issue is holding the job

Open the item to see which jobs are blocking it. Finish or reschedule the blocker, then return to the original job.

  • To do: the job exists but nobody has started.
  • Scheduled: the job is planned for a date, person, or window.
  • In progress: someone is doing the work.
  • Review: the work is done enough to check before closing.
  • Done: the job is closed and should have enough record detail for later.

FarmFusion only allows status moves that make sense for the job. If a move is not available, open the item and choose one of the available actions.

Programs and seasonal context

Seasonal jobs from Planning often belong to a Program (for example Planting 2026). On Work you can:

  • filter the list by Program on desktop (Program column)
  • search by Program name on mobile
  • see a Program breadcrumb on each row when season context applies

Programs show progress and blockers on Planning and Today. They do not replace individual work items. Each job still has its own status, assignee, and due date.

That same Program context now appears on related work lists inside Parcels, Assets, and key Inventory detail views, so crews can tell which seasonal outcome a shortage, service task, or field job supports.

Log what happened

When work is complete, add a work log before or while you close the item.

Useful logs include:

  • labor hours
  • acres covered
  • equipment used
  • parts or supplies used
  • notes from the field or shop
  • photos, documents, or follow-up concerns

Work logs make reports, asset history, field history, and AI answers more useful later.

Close or reopen work

Close a job when the team no longer needs to act on it.

  • Use Complete when the work was finished.
  • Use Skip when the work was intentionally not done.
  • Use Cancel when the job should stop.
  • Use Duplicate when another item already covers the same work.
  • Reopen a job when it needs more action after closing.

Add a note when the reason will matter later, especially for skipped, cancelled, duplicate, or replaced work.

Change Program on an open item

Open the work item ticket when you need to move a job into a different Program or remove Program context entirely.

  • Use the Program field on the ticket header to attach or remove a Program.
  • Leave progress off for supporting work that should stay linked without counting toward completion.
  • Keep seasonal jobs in the right Program so parcel, asset, and inventory detail surfaces stay in sync.

What good looks like

A useful work item tells the crew what to do, tells the manager where it stands, and leaves a record after the season.

It usually has:

  • a clear title
  • one responsible person or team
  • a realistic due date
  • linked parcels or assets
  • enough notes for field context
  • a work log when complete

Common issues

The crew cannot find the job. Check assignment, due date, filters, and whether the item is open or completed.

A job belongs to a field or machine but is not linked. Open the item and add the parcel or asset so history stays connected.

The same job was created twice. Close one as duplicate and keep the item with better notes, logs, and links.

A completed job needs more work. Reopen it or create a follow-up item if the next step is separate.
