Work types and activities
Understand the labels FarmFusion uses to keep farm work organized.
FarmFusion groups work into broad types so each job follows the right path. Activities are the plain-language labels your farm uses every day, such as Planting, Shop Work, Logging, or Equipment Repair.
Most users do not need to think about this while doing daily work. Use this page when you want to understand why work cards have different labels, colors, and closing choices.
Work types
| Type | Use it for | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Field Operation | Work on land or crops | Planting, spraying, tillage, harvest prep |
| Maintenance | Service, repair, inspection, or upkeep | Oil service, equipment repair, fence repair |
| Supplies | Buying, replenishing, or receiving supplies | Order parts, buy seed, receive inventory |
| Transport | Moving equipment, crops, or materials | Haul grain, move equipment, deliver seed |
| Inspection | Checking, scouting, assessing, or verifying | Crop scouting, damage assessment, safety check |
| Incident | Responding to an urgent or unplanned issue | Breakdown, spill, injury, storm damage |
| General Task | Everyday work that does not need a special path | Shop work, cleanup, logging, admin work |
Activities
Activities describe the specific kind of work under a broader type.
Examples:
- Planting under Field Operation
- Equipment Repair under Maintenance
- Parts Replenishment under Supplies
- Grain Hauling under Transport
- Crop Damage Assessment under Inspection
- Equipment Breakdown under Incident
- Shop Work under General Task
Activities help people search, filter, and talk about work in the words your farm already uses.
Farm-created activities
Your farm may use activities that are not in the starter list, such as:
- Firewood Processing
- Washout Barn
- Clean Calf Pens
- Pack Produce Boxes
- Move Irrigation Pipe
- Snow Removal
Farm-created activities should still sit under the closest work type. That keeps Work and WallBoard predictable while letting your farm use familiar terms.
Review the starter catalog under Settings -> Activities (read-only at launch). Farm-specific activity names will be editable in a later release.
Programs sit above activities
For seasonal work, FarmFusion adds one more layer:
| Layer | Example | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| Program | Planting 2026 | What seasonal outcome are we driving toward? |
| Activity | Planting | What kind of work is this? |
| Work item | Plant North 40 | What specific job is assigned? |
You usually pick an activity when you create work. Programs are set automatically when work comes from a locked season plan or when readiness jobs attach to the same seasonal goal.
Titles still matter
The activity says what kind of work it is. The title says the specific job.
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Type | Maintenance |
| Activity | Equipment Repair |
| Title | Replace hydraulic hose on Tractor 14 |
Another example:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Type | General Task |
| Activity | Shop Work |
| Title | Build chemical storage shelves |
